Behind The Brand

Dr. Ingrid Fray, a Jamaican-born college professor in New York City, founded 21 Degrees to share Caribbean herbal skin and body solutions. Inspired by her daughter’s eczema, her own struggles with acne, discoloration, and thinning hair, she struggled to find effective products unless she returned to Jamaica. 21 Degrees brings natural beauty from the Islands to the diaspora, supporting Caribbean small businesses.

Creator of our Hair Serum

“Hair isn’t just what grows from your head—it’s a reflection of your identity. It’s beauty in its rawest form, shining from the inside out.” — Janille James

Janille’s journey began with a simple yet powerful realization: true beauty starts with self-acceptance. After years of harsh chemical treatments and scalp burns, she decided to embrace her natural hair—and herself—exactly as she was created. What started as a personal quest for healthy, natural hair turned into a passion for helping others rediscover their confidence and beauty through natural care.

Her mission is to celebrate authenticity, self-love, and the connection between hair, health, and self-esteem. By turning away from artificial solutions and embracing natural remedies, Janille transformed her own “teeny weeny afro” into waist-length hair—and inspired countless others to say goodbye to relaxers and hello to natural beauty.

Today, her products reflect that same devotion to purity and wellness—crafted with safe, nourishing ingredients that care for hair, skin, and spirit.

Our Story

As a proud Jamaican immigrant, I longed for the beauty rituals I grew up with—those made with rare, potent ingredients drawn from the Caribbean’s fertile soil and coastal gardens. I missed the rich oils and plant essences that my hair and skin thrived on—Carriacou Sea Moss, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Hibiscus Petal Extract, and Coconut Cream, blended with treasures like Neem Leaf, Breadfruit Seed Oil, Soursop Leaf, Moringa, and Annatto.

Every visit home meant filling my suitcase with these natural gems—pure, handmade, and full of the island’s life force. Eventually, I realized it wasn’t just Caribbean people who missed that authenticity; everyone deserves to experience beauty that’s pure, nutrient-rich, and born from nature.

That realization gave rise to 21° Degrees—named for the latitude that connects the Caribbean islands. Each product honors the region’s biodiversity and ancestral wisdom, merging botanical science with traditional island care to restore strength, shine, and confidence.

Our formulas are crafted for all textures, tones, and hair types—made with intention, inspired by the earth, and powered by the islands.

Local farmers cultivate herbs, roots, and plants in this pristine earth, producing some of the most potent botanical oils and extracts in the Caribbean.
